Latest Project - BC Quilt

For the past several years, wonderful Alaskan bead artist Jeanette Shanigan has been beading against breast cancer. Every year, she asks fellow beaders to help her stitch “beaded quilt blocks” for an annual charity auction to support breast cancer research. This year’s quilt theme is “Bead artists have the heart to take on breast cancer” and we’ve been asked to stitch tiny beaded 1.5” squares of hearts. The Etsy Beadweavers Street Team is stitching away to collect some squares to send to Jeanette. Here is my pattern this year (these are made using a "square stitch").

Look at some of the other wonderful hearts that are being submitted (did you stitch some hearts? Let me know so I can link to your photos!):

Kerrie Slade's Hearts
Triz's Hearts
Melody's Hearts
Smadar's Hearts

Jojo's Hearts

In the spirit of this cause, our new Albuquerque gallery, The Wooden Cow Gallery and Art Space is hosting four FREE separate "stitching" classes for beaders who wish to make a heart for Jeanne's quilt project. All of the materials will be provided by an instructor (me!) who will help beaders learn new stitches while beading for a cure. If you're in the Albuquerque area, the dates for the classes are below. Please SIGN UP for any of these dates because seating is limited.

Wednesday, October 8th, 6:00-8:00 PM
Sunday, October 19th, 1:00-3:00 PM
Sunday, November 2nd, 3:00-5:00 PM
Sunday, December 14th, 1:00-3:00 PM

In our two hour class, students will stitch quilt blocks (any design as long as it ontains a heart!) – sign them (and, dedicate them to a special friend or family member who has battled this terrible disease) – and photograph them as a personal keepsake! At the end of the year, all of the quilt blocks created at the Wooden Cow Gallery and Art Space will be shipped to Alaska where Jeanette will stitch them together and donate the finished quilt to Bead Artists Against Breast Cancer (BAABC) for their 2009 auction (the 2008 “rose” block quilt raised nearly $4,500). Let’s show our New Mexico spirit for this great cause…all supplies and instruction are free – all you need to bring is your imagination and generous heart.

you are welcome (re the video). I had someone point me to it an it doesn't seem to have been pointed to much from the etsy site, but I thought it was good to hear!

My Tarot Card

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents, beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.
